Mr. Aalt Dijkhuizen during the presentation of the Horti China at the Horti Asia in Bangkok, Thailand last week

Horti China, November 22-24, Shanghai:

New exhibition platform to support Chinese food security

In November this year, the new horticultural trade show Horti China will be organized for the first time in Shanghai. The new event is the result of a cooperation between Horti Asia organizer VNU Exhibitions and the organizers of fresh produce shows MacFruit and Fruit Attraction. It will take place concurrent with the iFresh exhibition from 22 to 24 November 2017, at the national Convention and Exhibition Center in Shanghai, China.

The Horti China is organized as an answer to the growing opportunities within the Chinese horticultural sector as a result of the growing middle class and their growing demand for more and safely grown, high quality produce.

Horti China was presented by VNU during a special press conference at Horti Asia last week. At the presentation, industry heavyweight Aalt Dijkhuizen, ‎President of the Dutch Topsector Agri&Food, addressed the need for an event like this in China.

Mr. Aalt Dijkhuizen during the presentation of the Horti China at the Horti Asia in Bangkok, Thailand last week.

"China is my second home country and I have witnessed the challenges that the country faces in regards to feeding its growing population many times. China has the same problem as Holland, as its has the same amount of arable land available per capita. The introduction of a new trade show like the Horti China is a big step forward to exchange knowledge on food production and introduce new technologies that are needed to overcome hurdles and produce safe, high quality food as efficient as possible."

During Horti China a lot of emphasis will be on sessions and training that will be based on efficient food production with the help of the latest innovative technology. Next to this there are sessions planned to provide discussions on other aspects such as facility construction and access to market information.

The Horti China initiative will also develop a platform for face-to-face meetings and knowledge sharing with digital support. It will target the supply chain from breeders to the B2B end-users. As well as this it provides room for all other horticultural related products and technology, but a focus will be on fruit, vegetables, flowers and plants.

The annual IPM Hortiflor Expo is currently one of the few larger professional horticultural events in China that offers an international selection of technology for controlled environment agriculture. As the IPM China primarily focuses on floriculture, the new Horti China with its increased focus on food production can become a welcome addition to the current line up of horticultural trade shows in China.

Horti China will take place at the Shanghai National Convention and Exhibition Center from November 22 to 24, 2017, concurrent with the iFresh Fresh China International Fruit & Veg Expo. Click here for a photo report of the 2016 edition of this event, made by our colleagues at FreshPlaza.cn.
